Post-production technique
Remington Redux Finding this image lost amid the ruined jumble of a ghost town was a gift. Doing the initial processing in Bridge, I took it into Photoshop and started playing with it. It required little cropping and cleaning up. But then, I discovered that each bottle had a very faded but definite and different color. Selecting each bottle separately with the Lasso Tool, I opened an HSL Layer Mask and played with its saturation to bring out the hidden color. I then painted in minimal texture on the typewriter using PS’s grain filter. I applied the Nik Color Efex 3 Midnight filter to the entire image. Then I added a Curves Adjustment Layer, brought down the luminance and selectively painted it back with a big, soft brush at various opacities to highlight the typewriter and other elements of the image.
What was your vision for your finished image?
To make something out of an otherwise blah, low contrast image and turn it into an art piece.
